The press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported on cybercrime statistics from January to November 2024: Russians lost 168 billion rubles to attackers. The number of fraudulent transactions carried out remotely using computer software increased by 14.3% compared to the same period in 2023.

“In just 11 months of 2024, more than 702 thousand computer crimes were recorded,” quotes the TASS agency. “At the same time, we managed to reduce the increase in fraud from 44% in 2023 to 9.2% in 2024.”
The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Vladimir Kolokoltsev, previously mentioned that for this purpose, the structure of the department “operates special units to combat crimes in the field of information technologies.” He also noted that digital crimes damage the economy and violate citizens’ property rights.
One of the most popular new types of computer fraud became posts on the Telegram network in the summer of 2024: attackers posted remote job offers on behalf of IT companies. During the “interview,” personal information was extorted from the applicants to steal money.
