Both companies have reached an agreement that will allow them to explore new collaboration opportunities.
The dispute began after a 2014 agreement in which IBM transferred its semiconductor business to GlobalFoundries. IBM accused the company of delivering chips late, leading to a $2.5 billion lawsuit. GlobalFoundries claimed that by switching to Samsung as its 7nm chip supplier, it fulfilled its contractual obligations and even saved IBM money.
In 2023, GlobalFoundries filed another lawsuit accusing IBM of disclosing trade secrets to partners Intel and Japan’s Rapidus.
The companies have now resolved the dispute and are happy with the outcome.
