TikTok had previously conducted its own audit and found that “hundreds of thousands of children were streaming and exceeding age restrictions when communicating with adults.” At the press conference, the prosecutor stated that “the company benefited from some broadcasts containing nudity and sexual activity” because TikTok received a share of the profits from the sale of digital gifts during live broadcasts. The investigation also revealed that criminals were using the gift feature to launder money and were conducting illegal transactions during streams, the complaint states.
The lawsuit was filed demanding measures to protect underage users and eliminate unacceptable practices on the TikTok platform.
