White is a close ally of US President-elect Donald Trump. Mark Zuckerberg wrote that the UFC president has built the organization “into one of the most valuable, fastest-growing and most popular sports companies in the world.”
“I admire him as an entrepreneur and his ability to create such a beloved brand,” said the CEO of Meta.
In addition to White, the corporation’s board of directors includes the CEO of the investment holding Exor, the chairman of the board of directors of the car manufacturers Stellantis and Ferrari, John Elkann, as well as the investor and member of the advisory group Meta, Charlie Songhurst.
“Enormous prospects await us in the field of artificial intelligence, gadgets and social networks. The Board of Directors will help make our vision a reality,” Zuckerberg wrote.
The appointment of a Donald Trump supporter to Meta’s board of directors can be explained by Mark Zuckerberg’s desire to improve relations with the US president-elect, who accused the Meta director of interfering in the 2020 elections.
As The Wall Street Journal wrote, for the same purpose, last week Republican Joel Kaplan was named Meta’s head of international relations.
Additionally, according to the WSJ, Zuckerberg’s corporation donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration fund to strengthen “the once strained relationship with the incoming president.”
