As early as May 2025, Lenovo will release the Legion Go S, the first official console with SteamOS pre-installed.

But the company plans to go further and provide the ability to install the operating system on other devices earlier: a beta version for third-party consoles will be released in March.

As Steam Deck’s lead designer Pierre-Loupe Griffe explained, this will be a full-fledged release that will make SteamOS accessible to enthusiasts and experimenters.

Valve has already added support for some devices, such as the Asus ROG Ally. Moreover, the popular fan project Bazsite, which adapted SteamOS to other platforms, formed the basis of new solutions.

Valve emphasizes that only Lenovo currently has the right to officially pre-install SteamOS.

The company is trying to avoid fragmentation of the system by maintaining its versatility and a single update base.
