The agency’s interlocutor did not specify the details of the new restrictions. They will likely be directed, among other things, against Chinese companies that support Russia, he noted.
According to the official, the sanctions are aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s military position before the inauguration of US President-elect Donald Trump, who will take office on January 20.
Previously, the US Department of Defense announced a new aid package to kyiv worth $500 million. It includes missiles for air defense systems, air-to-ground missiles, other munitions and equipment to support F-16 fighters.
Sources told The Washington Post that Biden was going to introduce new sanctions against Russia at the end of December. According to them, the main target of the restrictions should be the so-called “shadow fleet” of international ships transporting Russian oil to non-Western countries and Russian oil exporters who have not yet been subject to sanctions.
The last American sanctions against Russia were introduced in November 2024. Then the SDN list of the American Ministry of Finance included Gazprombank, the state corporation Dom.RF, BKS Bank and other credit organizations. The sanctions caused the ruble to collapse to its lowest level since March 2022.
