The restrictions included legal entities and individuals associated with the oil industry, including the Rosneft Rosneftefflot structure, Russia’s Deputy Energy Ministers Roman Marshavin and Eduard Sheremetsev, as well as Tatneft CEO Nail Maganov.
Also on the sanctions list were 183 ships, mostly oil tankers, that U.S. Treasury officials say are part of Russia’s “shadow fleet”: international ships that transport Russian oil to non-Western countries.
In addition, the American agency imposed restrictions on the insurance companies Ingosstrakh and AlfaStrakhovanie. The US Treasury claims that these organizations insured tankers carrying Russian oil products.
The fact that the US government plans to impose sanctions against Russia, which will be the last before the end of Joe Biden’s presidential term, was previously reported by sources from Reuters and The Washington Post.
An unnamed US official told Reuters that the restrictions are aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s military position before US President-elect Donald Trump takes office. His inauguration will take place on January 20.
