“The concern is that he [Трамп] will cancel decisions [Байдена] only because Biden freed them,” said one of the newspaper’s interlocutors. “We need to know how this could affect us,” he added.

According to the Financial Times, European officials have already begun studying the decrees and sanctions introduced by Biden to understand exactly how they will affect the EU. The publication emphasized that the lifting of sanctions could cause problems in international relations and trade.

The newspaper clarified that American presidential decrees can be revoked at any time, and a new president typically reviews the decisions of the previous one shortly after taking office. For example, in 2017, when Trump began his first presidential term, he withdrew from the Paris climate agreement.

In the summer of 2024, the European Commission created a group of specialists to develop a strategy in case Trump is president again, the Financial Times recalled. Attention focused on issues such as potential trade conflicts, reducing US support for Ukraine and a possible shift in Washington’s commitment to European defense and security issues.

Trump won the US presidential election in early November 2024. The inauguration of the new head of the country will take place on January 20.
