Caitlin Kalinowski, a member of OpenAI’s technical staff, said the company is hiring first roboticists. They include an electrical engineer “who will help us develop a set of sensors for our robots” and a mechanical robotics engineer who will create “gears, actuators, motors and connections for the robots.”

The expert came to Open AI a little more two months ago“to lead the robotics and consumer equipment division.” And Kalinowski sees the most important goal of the team he is recruiting as “developing general-purpose robotics” and “seamlessly combining high-level artificial intelligence capabilities with real-world physical limitations.”

OpenAI has already shown interest in robotics: for example, it signed a collaboration agreement with the startup Figure, a developer of solutions for humanoid robots. Kalinowski’s addition, along with the job openings, signals the company’s increased investment in building out its robotics division.
