Data broker Gravy Analytics was hacked. The location information of millions of iPhone and Android users is at risk.

Gravy Analytics’ parent company Unacast reported a data breach earlier this month and said an unauthorized person had connected to its AWS cloud storage environment using an “illegal access key.” Received sound files that “may retain personal data” collected by users of external services.

Hackers believe that they have organized and client location data on smartphones that shows accurate data on people’s movements. No information was published on closed forums.

Gravy Analytics claims to track more than a billion devices worldwide every day. Security researchers who have seen samples of data collected by Gravy Analytics have confirmed that the information can be used to identify a person’s recent location without anonymization.
