Kimberly-Clark’s trademark rights cover classes 03, 05 and 16 of the International Classification of Goods and Services (ICGS), which include baby shampoos, soaps and cleansers, diaper rash creams and ointments, and other products.
Kimberly-Clark was founded in 1872. The first Huggies disposable diapers were sold in 1978 and by 1982 they had become one of the most popular diapers in the United States. Production in Russia began in 2010 in Stupino, near Moscow.
In March 2022, following the start of military operations in Ukraine, Kimberly-Clark announced that it would not suspend sales of diapers and other products in Russia due to their “humanitarian nature,” but would suspend investments in local production.
In conversation with RB.RU, patent lawyer of the company Online Patents, Alina Sidorova, stated that foreign companies renew their trademarks in Russia to maintain their brand monopoly in the country. In addition, this allows you to protect your rights and demand compensation of up to 5 million rubles for illegal use of the trademark.
Previously, DuPont, one of the largest American chemical companies in the world, extended the protection of its Teflon brand in Russia until 2034.
