Scientists used the results of a study on the risks of developing cardiovascular diseases in almost 3.6 thousand Finns born between 1962 and 1977. They were compared with an analysis of the Finnish labor market and information about parents. The study analyzes relevant data dating back to 2001.
According to the authors, the information obtained indicates a significant difference in income between young smokers and non-smokers. At the same time, an analysis of the relationship between smoking and income level among the older generation did not yield similar results. Furthermore, the inverse relationship between smoking and income level is not observed among those who quit smoking.
“Smoking at an early age is strongly associated with long-term income and employment, with the most severe effects experienced by people with low levels of education,” said lead author Jutta Viinikainen.
He added that the study’s findings highlight the need for policies that address the hidden economic costs of smoking and promote healthier lifestyles.
Previously, TASS, referring to the draft decision of the Duma Committee on Health Protection, wrote that in March the State Duma could consider a bill on a complete ban on the retail sale of vaporizers and liquids for them .
