The court unanimously ruled that the law, passed in 2024 by a bipartisan majority of Congress and signed by President Joe Biden, does not violate the free speech guarantee of the First Amendment of the Constitution.

“Congress has determined that the sale is necessary to address legitimate national security concerns related to TikTok’s data collection practices and its relationship with a foreign adversary,” the court said in the unsigned decision.

The day before, Reuters sources said that TikTok plans to stop the app in the United States on January 19. Users who try to open the social network will see a notification directing them to a site with information about the ban.

At the same time, on January 17, the Associated Press, citing an unnamed US official, wrote that Biden would leave the decision to block TikTok to President-elect Donald Trump, who will officially take office on the 20th of the same month.
