“Thanks to the efforts of President Trump, TikTok has returned to the United States,” TikTok said in a message to users of the social network.
A company spokesperson told the agency that the app’s resumption was possible because Trump provided “the necessary clarity and confidence” that service providers would not be punished for providing access to TikTok.
TikTok stopped working for US users late on Saturday, January 18, shortly before legislation aimed at banning it on national security grounds went into effect.
At a rally on Sunday, Trump said his team was committed to “saving” TikTok. He promised to delay the law banning the Chinese platform to reach an agreement that protects national security and allows TikTok to continue operating.
On January 19, TikTok users began reporting that they could again use the web version of the social network, but that the application only had limited functions, Reuters writes. Additionally, Americans still cannot download TikTok in the AppStore and Google Play app stores.
