“In response to anonymous posts about a data breach attributed to Rostelecom’s Internet resources, the company reports that it previously registered information security incidents with one of its contractors who provided services to these resources. “The leak most likely occurred from the contractor’s infrastructure,” the company said.
They added that they are studying the database content of the company.rt.ru and zakupki.rostelecom.ru websites to determine which part was compromised and whether it is related to the company. “Preliminarily, we can say that there was no leak of particularly sensitive personal data,” Rostelecom said.
At the same time, the operator recommended that site users reset their account passwords and enable two-factor identification when available.
The Ministry of Digital Development confirmed to RIA Novosti that hackers attacked the infrastructure of contractor Rostelecom and that the incident is being investigated. The ministry highlighted that no confidential data of the contractor company’s clients or the operator itself was leaked to the network.
On Tuesday, January 21, the Telegram channel “Information Leaks” reported that the hacking group Silent Crow announced that Rostelecom had been hacked. According to the attackers, they downloaded databases from the websites company.rt.ru and zakupki.rostelecom.ru and, as evidence, provided tables containing 154,000 unique email addresses and 101,000 unique phone numbers.
Previously, Silent Crow hackers announced the hacking of the companies Rosreestr, Kia Russia and the CIS, AlfaStrakhovanie-Life and Alfa-Bank Clients Club.
