In the first stage, Oracle, Softbank and OpenAI will jointly invest up to $100 billion in the project, and up to $500 billion will be invested in the future, including government support. US President Donald Trump said Stargate will create up to 100,000 new jobs for Americans.
Masayoshi Son will become the president of the project. The first facility of the new initiative will be a data center with an area of more than 9 hectares in Texas. Oracle, specialized in this, will be in charge of preparing the data centers. The project must create “physical and virtual infrastructure to support [разработки] Next-generation AI,” Trump said.
“We want to maintain [технологии ИИ] in our country. China is a competitor, others are competitors. For my part, I will help with the emergency decrees that are necessary for the prompt construction of these facilities. [Разработчикам ИИ] If they have to consume a lot of electricity, we will give them the opportunity to generate it in their own companies,” said the president (cited by CBS).
Earlier, on the first day of his presidency, Trump canceled Joe Biden’s decree on measures to ensure the safety of the development and operation of artificial intelligence. The document ordered companies developing neural networks and artificial intelligence technologies to work closely with the government and share the results of security checks on products before their launch.
