One UI 7 was finally released at the Galaxy Unpacked event this Wednesday (22). One of Samsung’s biggest updates to date, the update redesigns the operating system interface, introduces the “Now Bar”, increases Galaxy AI features, and much more.
Samsung’s new operating system adds many touches to the interface and user experience. The first noticeable change is the lock screen, which now has more space for widgets and more customization options.
One UI 7 had a very short Beta phase in testing since December 2024. The reception of the update in international media was positive, with the update being perceived as a great success in different aspects, especially appearance and usability.
Below you can see all the new features of One UI 7.
Lock screen and Now Bar
The lock screen received significant improvements in One UI 7. This section now includes more widgets to complement the clock, additional effects for the wallpaper, and more shortcut options for the bottom corners.
The highlight of the section is the Now Bar, a dynamic widget apparently inspired by iOS’s “Live Events.” Unlike the iPhone, this feature is displayed at the bottom of the screen and shows quick information about apps open in the background, such as a stopwatch, sleep timer, and music playback control.
The Now Bar also serves as a shortcut to basic functions: In the case of the music player, tapping on it opens album art and interaction options for the selected streaming app.
Home screen and Quick Settings
The essence of the One UI 7 Home Screen has been retained, but many of the native app icons have been revised. Images now offer a greater sense of depth, are richer in detail and distinguishable from other options; Whether it’s better or worse depends on personal preference.
Another part that has received significant improvements is the Application Tray. Traditionally organized in a carousel shape, One UI 7 now lets you place all listed programs on a single page with vertical scrolling.
The Quick Settings section has also been revised along with the Notification Tray. By default, both are now separate and can be accessed by gestures in different areas of the screen.
Quick Settings offer more customization options, allowing the user to set up the section as desired. The Notification Tray, on the other hand, displays information in pill-shaped bubbles and makes better use of the extra screen space.
Improvements have also been made to the Task Switcher (“Task switcher” in Portuguese): Apps open in the background are now arranged in a stack by default instead of a carousel.
Good Lock news
The Good Lock personalization app is now more widely available. The app paves the way for advanced tweaks to Samsung’s interface, such as animations, behaviors, and gestures.
The application is now available for download from the Play Store and will have new features exclusive to One UI 7.
Which phones get One UI 7?
One UI 7 will be available natively on the Galaxy S25 but will also be coming to more Samsung handsets. The update will be distributed first to models in the Galaxy S family.
