Russia’s largest hotel chain, Azimut Hotels, will open two hotels in Israel: in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. The first hotel could start operating in mid-2025, if the geopolitical situation allows, the company’s general director Maxim Brodovsky told RBC.

The hotels will be managed by Azimut Hotels and will have about 120 rooms each, the businessman said, but he did not want to provide their exact addresses. Brodovsky added that part of the investment in projects in Israel was obtained through the sale of European assets.

According to the top manager, the international development of Azimut Hotels is a strategic objective for the growth of the chain. Hotels in Israel are designed for tourists, as well as people who come for personal business, religious trips or business trips. He added that, despite geopolitical and economic difficulties, “relations between people tend to remain good.”

Azimut Hotels has decided to cease its activity in Europe in March 2023. Of the more than 20 European hotels managed by the company, in 2022 only eight would remain, in Germany and Austria. Until 2023, the chain will only have three hotels left in Dresden.

According to the Israeli Ministry of Tourism, 72.6 thousand Russians visited the country in 2024, 54% less than in 2023 (158.5 thousand trips). Russian citizens account for approximately 7.5% of the flow of foreign tourists. However, according to the FSB, which takes into account both tourist and other purposes of the visit, 89.6 thousand trips by Russians to Israel were registered in the first nine months of 2024 alone, RBC added.
