US President Donald Trump supports the purchase of the social network TikTok by Elon Musk or Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison. He announced it at a press conference at the White House, Bloomberg reports.

Trump emphasized that he has the right to close this deal, since TikTok will not be able to operate in the United States without government permission. “So I’m thinking about telling someone: buy this and give half to the United States, half, and we’ll give you permission and you’ll have a great partner,” the president said.
Sources told Bloomberg in mid-January that Chinese authorities are considering selling TikTok to Musk. A TikTok representative called this information “pure fiction” in a comment to Variety.
According to Bloomberg, in addition to Musk and Ellison, popular video blogger MrBeast (James Donaldson) is vying to buy TikTok. He is part of a group of investors brought together by technology entrepreneur Jesse Tinsley. Among the social network’s contenders, the agency also names the former owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers baseball club, Frank McCourt, and the investor Kevin O’Leary, known for his participation in the program Shark Tank.
According to Bloomberg, McCourt and O’Leary made a formal offer to buy TikTok in early January. Additionally, O’Leary has already met with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago residence to discuss the potential proposal. Tinsley, along with MrBeast and other investors, submitted a cash offer, the agency added.
TikTok ceased operations in the United States on January 18, a day before a Supreme Court-backed law that aimed to ban the app in the country on national security concerns took effect.
On January 20, the social network began restoring operations after Trump announced plans to resume access to the platform. After the inauguration, the politician signed an executive order delaying the ban on TikTok for 75 days so that the new administration could determine further measures.
Bloomberg recalled that the Chinese ByteDance, owner of TikTok, publicly stated that it has no intention of selling the social network. According to the agency, applicants for the service hope that the Supreme Court’s decision and the short-term closure of the platform will force the company to change its decision.
