The German broadcast Heise.de found that many buyers who ordered new Seagate drivers have received devices with tens of thousands of hours of working time.
The first alarm came from the reader who received a pair of 14 TB HDD Seagate Exos. Outward, the discs seemed to be almost new, but after checking smart data, it turned out that one has already worked for 10,000 hours and the other-15,000.
The recipient returned them and bought 16 TB EXOS from another seller, but there were repeated story – discs were 22,000 hours of production.
Later, it turned out that we were talking about OEM models that were not covered by a five -year Seagate guarantee.
When Heise.de published this story, a complaint flow fell to the editor: more than 50 people said they faced the same problem. They purchased hard drives in different stores, including Amazon and Mindfactory.
