During a new study, experts used data from 400,229 people between the ages of 40 and 69 years from the British Biobank work. Their health has been observed for 14 years. In 6868 (almost 2%), a glaucoma developed during this time.
The results of the blood analysis of the participants showed that higher “good” cholesterol levels are associated with increased risk of increased glaucoma, but at higher levels of “weak” cholesterol, total cholesterol and triglycerides are lower.
In people with the highest HDL cholesterol levels in the blood, the risk of glaucoma was 10% higher than people with the lowest level of cholesterol. And every increase in the indicator was associated with 5%risk increase.
At the highest levels, those with “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides had 8% and 14% respectively, respectively, the likelihood of developing less glaucoma than people with the lowest indicators. LDL cholesterol reduced the risks of increased increases in total cholesterol and triglyceride by 4%, 3%and 4%, respectively.
However, all this was observed for those older than 55 years of age. At the same time, people aged 40-55 were unique.
