To control this, the diver taught fish, wore a bright vest, and offered food when they sail a certain distance. Over time, he took off his vest and hid the food, but the fish still followed him. When another diver joined him, the fish followed both, but quickly began to hold onto the person who gave them food.

However, when both divers wear the same equipment, the fish could no longer distinguish them. This shows that fish know people with flowers and patterns, not by facial characteristics.

This study, published in the journal of Biology letters, shows that fish can create individual relations with people like other animals. Researchers believe that many fish species, including those living in home aquariums, can recognize their owners.
