The results of the new study show that people with higher levels of narcissism are more sensitive to exclusion signals. This means that they are more often exposed to ostracism (subjective experience based on the perception of social signals by the individual).
As part of the study, scientists analyzed the data of various surveys. One of the main sources was a long -term German work with 1592 people. It turned out that people with a higher level of narcissism were more excluded than those with a lower level of narcissism.
In addition, in a series of experiments, experts analyzed the reaction of 2500 people with different narcissism levels. It turned out that participants with stronger narcissistic features were inclined to interpret the ignorance (for example, when they were not selected in the team) as deliberate rejection. They also predicted how many times they were excluded.
