In Russia, a new Gost for signals and road marks were introduced

The document developed with the participation of the Moscow Road Organization Center (SCD) presents new signs and simplifies the application of existing ones:

• There was a “deaf” signal that warns about the possible appearance of pedestrians with hearing impairment (between medical centers or social institutions).
• The plate, which indicates the validity of the road signs, now includes not only the hours and days of the week, but also months.
• Combined signs appeared, for example, the “recommended speed restriction” will be placed on the shield with the indicator “artificial unstigility” and “parking”, along with the image “method to configure the vehicle to park”.
• The vertical version of the “Stop Line” sign will replace horizontal where it is more convenient, for example, not to block traffic lights.

In addition, the new standard allows:

• Do not double the “stop line” sign with marks in front of adjustable intersections.
• Close part of the information on signals with magnetic tape instead of covers.
• Reduce the width of the parking spaces of 2.5 Ma 2.25 m.

Regional differences. The use of the standard is not necessary until 2026, but the regions can introduce it before planned. For example, Moscow has already announced the dismantling of 55 thousand “extra” signs. According to the data center, around 900 thousand signs were installed in Moscow. The authorities of the Moscow region affirm that they have already optimized the disposition of the signs and do not plan the massive reduction. In Crimea, officials study Gost and consider the pilot implementation in one of the cities.

Difficulties with simplification. The experts surveyed by the newspaper support the idea of ​​reducing the signs, but warn about possible problems. For example, if the stop line is erased or hidden by snow, but there are no signs, the driver can interrupt the traffic rules unintentionally. In addition, although the standard is optional, the old and new rules can operate in different cities at the same time.
