The company explains this solution with the desire to create a full center for the production of advanced semiconductors in the United States. This cluster will include factories designed for chipset production for 3-nm, 2-nm or more modern 1.6 nm (A16).
TSMC plans to create two additional modules on the Fab 21 site to achieve the target of 30% of chips in Arizona. At the same time, the main part of the 2-nm and A16-chips production will remain in Taiwan and the company is already erected in at least three factories.
The first Fab 21 module in the United States has already begun chip production according to the N4 and N5 operations. The second module designed for 3-NM technologies has been created and the equipment is now being installed-the lance can be accelerated compared to the first plans.
The beginning of the construction of the third and fourth Fab 21 modules that will use 2-nm and 1.6 nm operations is planned at the end of this year. TSMC does not call the exact dates of the launch, but at least one of them is assumed to work until 2029.
