The penalty was the end of the annual investigation to find out if the company had complied with the DMA requirements aimed at developing competition in markets dominated by large players and whether it complies with the requirements of the DMA, which aims to create opportunities for smaller competitors.

One of the main requirements of DMA is to prevent major platforms from limiting user’s access to information about alternative and cheaper offers of competitors. Since US President Donald Trump threatened to bring reinforced tariffs for countries that have previously fined American companies, these fines can lead to the exacerbation of relations between the EU and the United States.
