Duolingo announced on Wednesday, an expansion that adds 148 new language courses to the application. The platform officially offers eight most popular languages in the world in 28 existing languages. The movement is part of the more adoption of productive artificial intelligence (AI) by the application.
The company points out that this is the largest content expansion in Duolingo’s history. In a statement, Luis Von Ahn, CEO of the company and CO’lu, said that they took about 12 years to improve our first 100 courses, and now we have managed to create and start almost 150 new courses in about a year. “
In practice, changes are exactly the usability of certain courses for more languages:
- In Latin America, Portuguese and Spanish speakers will have official Japanese, Korea and Mandarin courses;
- In Europe, the speakers of 15 European languages will have courses by Japanese, Korean, Mandarin and more languages;
- In Asia, the speakers of Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Vietnamca, Indonesia, Thailand, Tagalo, Hindi, Bengal, Telugu and Tamil can use seven most popular languages after English (Spanish, French, German, Italian, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Mandarin).
According to Duolingo, the biggest offer of official courses is part of the frequent demands of users in social networks. The platform says the number of Korean students in Brazil has increased by 105% and Japanese students have increased by 120% in the last two years.
New courses bring novice content (A1 and A2 cefr levels), stories and Daadio. According to Duolingo, more advanced content will be published in 2025.
Duolingo now
It is the use of productive AI in Duolingo, which leads to the usability of more course in new languages. This is an example for CEO von Ahn “How can productive AI be able to benefit directly to our students”.
Fast scalability, which has reduced years to a few months in developing a new course, includes AI usage, shared content systems;
Last Monday (28) announced that Von Ahn Duolingo will be a company that gives priority to the use of artificial intelligence. In a memorandum sent to the employees via E -mail, AI said that the work has already changed the work “and that it is not just a” increase in productivity “. “When there is such a big change, the worst thing to do is expect,” CEO says.
With the adoption of the productive AI, Duolingo says the possibility of better service to the public with new courses is faster and more scalable.
Among the changes that the company will make from the new strategy, Duolingo will slowly close the contracts with jobs that can do for outdoor business. Reign will be used as part of requirements or differences.
In the statement, CEO also emphasized that “Duolingo will continue to be a profoundly interested company” and that it is not about changing people with AI, but in the service proposal, “lifting bottlenecks”.
Currently, Duolingo is already using Lily character in video search feature. It can remember the issues that are already discussed and help users apply speech.
