Optis, registered in Texas, does not produce any product – focused on buying patents completely and demands against later major manufacturers.
In 2019, he filed a lawsuit against Apple in the UK, claiming that the company uses Key 4G technologies without an appropriate license. Initially, the London Supreme Court predicted payments as $ 56.4 million, but Optis calculated the amount of underestimated and appealed.
Now, the Court of Appeal ordered Apple to pay 10 times more for the period from 2013 to 2027. This amount includes a global license to use Optis Patents.
Apple has already announced its intention to object to the decision. The company’s representative said: “Optis does not do anything and there is only for patent claims. We will continue to defend ourselves from attempts to make unreasonable payments.”
