The decision is related to Beijing’s efforts to take a leading position in the field of AI and cloud technologies, including the transition to more modern solutions.

Although the CXMT starts the mass production of DDR4 only at the end of 2024, the company now draws attention to the development of HBM chips. According to Digitimes, the HBM3 verification from CXMT may end by the end of 2025.

CXMT plans were surprised in the market, especially against the background of the price increase for DDR4 – the deficit already increased by 150%at 8 GB chips. Analysts expect the termination of DDR4 support to appear in the III quarter of 2025.

At the same time, the whole DDR4 will not leave the market. The CXMT will continue to deliver for Gigadevice, and Samsung and SK Hynix will save separate production lines without using EUV and leave the DDR4 as a suitable option for the mass segment.
