Unlike previous chips, the W6 is created from scratch, especially for wearable electronics. It will be a powerful Cortex-A78 processor nucleus and four economic Cortex-A55 core. The chip will also support RAM LPDDR5X. TSMC will be done with production.
The media promises a significant increase in the new chip performance compared to the W5 presented in 2022. For comparison, the W5 uses the old Cortex-A53 core and the W6 will have a more modern A55 and A78. The same approach is also used in the Samsung Exynos W1000 processor recently released.
It is still unknown when Qualcomm will offer an innovation, but perhaps this will happen this September. The first smart watches with a new chip may appear in the beginning of 2026.
