The study was carried out by experts from various Russian institutes together with international partners. Fendouzhe Deep -sea apparatus was used for the study.

Scientists found multicellular animal groups living due to chemical synthesis and methane consumption. These communities dominate special ponds and double -shelled molluscs that can live in excessive conditions without light and food from surface layers.

These are the deepest communities known today. Previously, the record was kept by mollusks from the Japanese grooves that were discovered at a depth of 7434 meters.
