The star bridge, which is about one million light years long, consists of light from the “extracted” stars from local galaxies due to a strong gravity charm. Scientists were able to see this very weak light by combining the data obtained in 28 -hour observation using the Dark Energy Camera in Chile.

On one side of the bridge, there is an unusual “medical -like” galaxy JO171, where long gas tails are stretched from one side, on one side of the bridge. During the merger, JO171 loses gas, so the new stars stop formation in the public structure.

This discovery helps to understand not only the history of accumulation, but also the distribution of dark matter – an invisible substance that makes up most of the mass of the universe. The light from the Star Bridge reflects the location of the dark matter.
