Fears are expressed not only by “enthusiasts, but also by legal antique sellers. According to them, at least the Great Britain are the “stolen” objects that are removed from the tombs and “destroying the reputation of collection”.
At the same time, in 2022, British journalists identified dozens of people in social networks, and some of them were open to the public.
Scientists also accept the scale of the phenomenon: in academic magazines, the sales cases of remains are explained through Instagram* and it is emphasized that the real scope of the illegal market is not fully examined.
The reasons are different – from religious practices to the desire of the collectors, to “originality”.
*It belongs to the Meta, known and forbidden in the Russian Federation.
