Punctum is unique in terms of having the brightness of the Crab-shaped nebula, which is 10-100 times higher than the supernova and magnetars that can only be seen in the millimeter range.
At the same time, the object is compact and shows a powerful radiation polarization that shows a regular magnetic field and a syncrotron radiation mechanism.
At the same time, its nature remains a mystery: Magnetars are very boring in this range and supernova remains are huge to explain the observed. It is possible that Punctum will be an extreme representative of famous objects or a completely new species.
Other observations and future research using the James Webb telescope of Alma should help find the true nature of this “point”, which has become one of the most interesting findings of recent years.
