The host of the Rozetked YouTube channel talked about the newly launched Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones. The expert compared them with the models WH-1000X, WH-1000XM2, WH-1000XM3, WH-1000XM4. In fact, there is almost no difference in appearance or internal specs between the Sony WH-1000XM5 and its predecessors. According to the expert, this is one of Sony’s weirdest devices.
With Sony WH-1000XM5 only headphones, charging cable and case are included. Also, the dimensions of the headphones have become even larger than their predecessors, and they also do not fold at all, so it will be more difficult to put them in a backpack. The material of the WH-1000XM5’s arms is plastic, so it’s not even metal. It is also impossible to fix them in one place.
Worse still is the oddly Sony WH-1000XM5 sound. The size of its drivers has been reduced from 40mm to 30mm. But other features remained almost the same as in previous versions. You can find all the options below.
According to experts, the sound of Sony WH-1000XM5 headphones is really good, more intense. Maybe even better than the WH-1000XM4 to some extent. However, due to the reduction of drivers, the bass sound started not to come out very well. Noise reduction is better here than in all previous versions. At the same time, as the presenter noted, the best sound in the series is the WH-1000XM3.
In any case the sound from the microphone is bad. Especially when compared to AirPods Max.
There are features that Sony WH-1000XM5 does not have compared to previous models. This, for example, NFC, optimization of atmospheric pressure.
At the same time, the progress of the new headphones compared to the old ones is noticeable in the improvement of the noise reduction function. Eight microphones instead of five are also installed on the new device.
The headphones can work for 40 hours without noise reduction and 30 hours with noise reduction turned on. At the same time, previous versions of the WH-1000XM4 and WH-1000XM3 were able to run 38 hours without noise reduction and 30 hours with it.
As for the charging speed, the XM2 version took four hours and the XM3 three hours. But XM5 needs 3.5 hours. There is support for fast charging and Power Delivery charging.
The new headsets do not have PlayStation 5 support. So they will need to be connected to the gamepad with a cable. In addition, the new version does not have protection against water and dust, although the headphones are not cheap (but they are not yet sold in Russia and it is not clear whether they will sell).
The Sony WH-1000XM5’s materials have deteriorated, the speakers have become smaller, the sound has also deteriorated. Of the advantages of the new items – perhaps just noise reduction. If you already own any of the previous versions of these headphones, you should definitely not replace them with a new one.
