One of the enthusiasts from the Chiphell forum launched the FSR 4.0.2 in the Radeon RX 6800 XT (RDNA 2 architecture) and tested the Apskailer in Stellar Blade game using a modified DLL Bibliotex.
The results were uncertain. On the one hand, the image quality has grown significantly compared to FSR 3: the detailing has become higher, the picture is clearer. On the other hand, performance fell.
In quality, the game has shown 110 frames per second, and the indicator fell to 100-107 fps with FSR 4, which means 10-20%loss.
This is because RDNA 2 does not support the WMMA hardware instructions required for the effective operation of FSR 4. Instead, less productive DP4A and integer blocks are used.
However, the experiment has shown that you can get an increase in image quality even in old GPUs.
The community hopes that AMD will officially expand FSR 4 support by providing better compatibility and stability.
