The researchers performed experiments in a room with a volume of 10 m³ by spraying allergens in the form of a person really breathing particles. The camera was radiation with the “special” ultraviolet light (Far-UVC, 222 nm). Unlike normal with 254 nm, UV222 is safe for volumes and eyes, but also kills germs and destroys allergen proteins.
The results showed that the concentration of allergens decreased by 20-25%after the UV222 was exposed to 30 minutes. Some allergens reacted faster (eg birch pollen), others more slow (cat hair). The effect was obtained by safe ultraviolet radiation doses, which were significantly lower than the permissible norms.
Researchers say that UV222 works much faster than traditional methods – cleaning, replacing carpets or swimming pets. Although the experiments were carried out in a controlled environment and have not yet measured real symptoms in humans.
