Tesla announced the cheapest versions of the Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles in the Standard configuration. It replaces the previous RWD, which is now called Premium.

The base model Y Standard costs $39,990 in the US, which is $5,000 cheaper than the outgoing Premium RWD. Due to the reduction in price, the characteristics have decreased slightly: the range has been reduced from 574 to 516 km, and now the acceleration is up to 100 km/h. takes 6.8 seconds instead of 5.4. The maximum speed remained the same – 201 km/h.

To reduce the price, Tesla has simplified the package. The Standard version does not have a panoramic roof, a second display, adjustments to the steering wheel and rear seats, heated rear rows and atmospheric lighting. Instead of 15 speakers, there are 7 left, without a subwoofer.

The suspension is now without adaptive shock absorbers, and the interior is lined with fabric instead of microsuede. The LED jumpers in the external optics have also been removed, and the wheels have been reduced from 19 to 18 inches. Body color can now only be selected from a palette, and for other parts and wheels they ask for an additional payment of up to $1,500.

The 3 Standard model received similar changes. Its price is $36,990, which is $5,500 below the Premium RWD. The power reserve is the same 516 km, and acceleration to cost has become slower by about a second. In terms of equipment and interior, the new basic “three-ruble note” is identical to the Model Y Standard.

Despite the formal price cut, American buyers don’t really feel the benefit: Tesla members get a $7,500 federal tax break, so the final cost of the car, including taxes and fees, has remained roughly the same.

Following this news, the company’s shares fell by 4.5%.
