People find more than 80 activities more enjoyable when done in a group than alone, according to a new study. This list included tasks such as refueling the car, doing homework, reading a book, and repairing a car.
Experts took data from the American Time Use Study (ATUS) to conduct the study. In each of the selected years (2010, 2012, 2013 and 2021), participants found any activity in a group more enjoyable than doing it alone. The exception is 2021, when washing dishes and cleaning while communicating with someone brings less pleasure than the same thing alone.
The greatest benefits come from activities that involve group communication. This is eating, drinking, running, walking, playing. The same effect was observed for activities such as creativity, reading, and daily commuting.
