The technology is based on piezoelectric material, which creates vibrations when electricity is applied. These vibrations cause the ice sheet to flake off. Unlike traditional systems that use hot air or chemicals, the new design consumes significantly less energy and does not require external control.
The coating is based on a multilayer structure: a piezoelectric element with integrated electrodes and a protective polymer coating. It connects to the aircraft’s onboard network and has the ability to operate in automatic mode.
Tests showed that the system destroyed ice up to five millimeters thick in a few seconds. After cleaning, the device automatically reduces activity, saving energy. The additional heat generated by the vibrations helps clear ice faster, even in harsh weather conditions.
