Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Apple has no plans to bring Face ID to Macs just yet. The technology remains “a matter of a few years.”
According to him, the company is still considering the possibility of switching from Touch ID to a face viewing system, but the project is in the early stages and is not preparing for the advent of Mac generations.
Gurman has previously said that Apple wants to unify authentication rules across all devices, including iPhone, iPad and Mac, but so far technical limitations have hampered this. In particular, the difficulty of placing Face ID modules in thin laptop covers.
