Previously, there was a switch in the settings that allowed you to completely disable updates, giving the user control over their installation.
Now Microsoft is only offering a temporary suspension of one to five weeks instead. After the pause period ends, updates will automatically resume, just like Windows Update.
No official statement about this change appeared in the Microsoft Store update log.
The new system only affects applications installed via the store: programs downloaded from external sources still update themselves.
The change caused dissatisfaction among some users who preferred to work with older versions of programs. Microsoft states that mandatory updates provide a higher level of security and stability in applications.
