Titan’s low average density (1.8 g/cm³) is inconsistent with models that assume only rock and water ice. Scientists suggest the existence of a distinct structure: a rocky core, an ice shell, and a subsurface ocean containing organic components.

Organic compounds similar to terrestrial kerogens and bitumens may have formed from interstellar dust during the formation of the Solar System. The combination of carbonaceous substances with liquid water makes Titan a promising object for the search for extraterrestrial life.

The study was carried out using computational modeling methods.
