An unknown number of users are currently encountering a strange error message when they try to install a new test version of Windows 11, Windows Latest Notes. It is related to error 0xc1900101, a code that says little about the cause of the problem. Microsoft is aware of the error message and is currently trying to figure out what went wrong.
The error seems to occur mainly in Windows 11 Preview Build updates. There are also reports of cumulative updates triggering the error. There is currently no workaround available to users; when the error message occurs, there is no known reliable way to install the update. Windows 11 will then revert to the previous version without providing further information about the cause of the problem.
The 0xc1900101 error is a ‘general’ error that says little about the cause of the problem. Microsoft states on a support page that the message ‘usually indicates a driver issue’. The solutions are very diverse; updating all drivers, freeing up storage space, disconnecting peripherals, and disabling third-party security software may fix the problem.
