GeekBrains students have filed a second class action lawsuit against the company. The reason was the refusal of EdTech-enterprise to return money to customers for online courses at the beginning of the training.

GeekBrains Students File Second Class Lawsuit Against Online School

The lawsuit was filed with the Savelovsky District Court on July 26, the Vedomosti newspaper reports, citing Yulia Aleinik, head of the DestraLegal.ru group of lawyers (which represents the interests of the applicants).

The applicants were 102 students, they demand 25.7 million rubles. This amount includes the cost of paid courses, a fine for refusing to meet the requirements of clients, and compensation for moral damage in the amount of 20 thousand rubles for each.

A GeekBrains representative said that instances where a particular course may not be suitable for some of the students occur in the work of an online school. According to him, the site helps with the selection of “alternative options for free replacement of the educational program.” The company has also launched a “Hotline” for students, where it resolves various issues, including the refund of tuition fees.

The first class action lawsuit against GeekBrains for refusing to return money was filed in December 2021. 24 students initially participated. The total amount of their claims at that time was 4.5 million rubles. Last time, the company was able to settle the dispute out of court, paying about 2 million rubles.

GeekBrains claims that the court did not qualify the initial lawsuit against the company as a class action lawsuit and left it without consideration on the merits.
