Nearly half of investors have shifted their geographic investment focus this summer, analysts at Dsight said. According to the results of their survey, it also turned out that 4 out of 10 new companies have moved, and a significant part of them see Russia as a target market.
Analysts at venture investment platform Dsight surveyed more than 80 representatives of startups and investors to find out how industry sentiment has changed in the summer of 2022. The survey was conducted in June-July, the results of Dsight they were shared with RB.
Russia was named one of the target markets by 73% of startup respondents. About half of such a market see the CIS countries and Europe. Only 23% of respondents have venture investors, but 3 out of 4 respondents plan to make an investment round in 2022.
Almost 40% of new companies have moved from Russia or plan to do so. Half of them consider Russia their target market.
“Of those who continue to invest in the Russian venture capital market, 40% have a narrow profile related to deep tech and industrial areas, 50% are generalists,” Dsight noted.
Almost one in two investors changed their investment focus, mainly to the CIS countries (78%), the Middle East (66%) and Asia (44%). Half of these investors specialize in low profile investments. Startups in the areas of enterprise software development, cybersecurity, and fintech are in the highest demand.
According to Dsight, $2.4 billion was raised on the Russian venture capital market in 2021, three times more than in 2020.
