America has taken the first step towards a future in which government and private companies will be able to build in space. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) votes to open economic potential case production, assembly and service outside the earth’s atmosphere. The FCC will review space mission opportunities and challenges, as well as policy issues related to the above items.

According to the government apparatus, this procedure involves certain actions. These include satellite refuelers, inspection and repair of spacecraft in orbit and the transformation of materials through manufacturing in space. The FCC is aware that any manufacturing and assembly operation will generate waste, therefore focus on capturing and removing debris and space debris.

Space Services, Assembly, and Manufacturing (ISAM) capabilities have the potential to create entire industries, create new jobs, mitigate climate change, and advance America’s economic, scientific, technological, and national development.

The FCC stated that will update its rules for the new space age, starting with satellites. The new rules will give companies in the sector quick access to a range of transmissions from launch vehicles. This will be applied during the test or space launch phase.

In terms of space debris, the FCC has said that those seeking a license to build a space station will need to describe their functions in detail. Characteristics such as operation and waste management must comply with the new rules. These include addressing the issue of debris ejection during normal space operations, the risk of accidental explosions or collisions.

A new FCC procedure is looking for information on how they can facilitate construction missions in space. The agency said it would consider mission spectrum requirements, implications for orbital debris regulations and any regulatory issues.

The FCC points out that although many commercial and non-governmental ISAM activities are in their infancy. The FCC has played a role in authorizing some missions that involve relevant and innovative technology.

Loosening rules for operating and building in space will speed up the next missions to the Moon and Mars.

In 2019, NASA published a plan to develop the “low Earth orbit” (LEO) economy, which will allow the purchase of services from one or more providers. The Artemis program, in which a woman will go to the surface of the moon, is going according to plan. In this regard, it will be necessary create a scenario where private companies have a commercial presence in Earth orbit as well as on the Moon.

Companies such as Axiom Space, Nanorack or Blue Origin have offers for construction of space stations for the completion of the ISS. The Jeff Bezos company is also interested in to promote the new space economy with tourist trips to space. A few weeks ago he completed a mission to Space for mankind, an association that sends deserving people into space. The Mexican Katya Echazarreta, who works as an engineer at JPL, traveled in it.
