Rostec’s development will track the flights of birds and protect aircraft from them.

The Orni ornithological security system is being created by Ruselectronics, the corporation’s press service reported.

The automatic operation system can simultaneously track the flights of 100 birds at a distance of 21 km from the aircraft. Orni is equipped with emitters that scare away birds that are dangerously close to the aircraft.

“According to the International Civil Aviation Organization, there are more than 5,000 bird strikes in the world every year. In almost half of the cases, the birds get on the engine, after which the aircraft must return to the airport,” said Andrey Sorokin, director of commercial activities at the Vector Research Institute.

The system has already been tested at the Pulkovo airport in St. Petersburg.

Previously, Rostec presented a prototype of monocrystalline silicon, a fast charging station for electric vehicles and the Aurora home messenger.
