The draft resolution on the ban on the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians was submitted for discussion to the European Union. The ban applies not only to tourist visas, but also to students, relatives of EU citizens. The draft is likely to be discussed in late August at a meeting of foreign ministers.

The EU will discuss the ban on the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians

The fact that the European Union will discuss a project to ban the issuance of Schengen visas to most Russians, said the representative of the German government, Steffen Hebeshtreit, TASS writes.

The representative of the German Chancellery specified that the discussion of the project could take place at the end of August at a meeting of the heads of the foreign affairs departments of the EU countries. Andrea Sasse noted that the discussion about introducing such a ban is “very hypothetical” and she did not say what the German authorities think about it.

The draft resolution implies a ban on the issuance of Schengen visas to Russians, including citizens of the Russian Federation who have relatives in EU countries, as well as students for tourism purposes.

Stop issuing Schengen visas to Russians earlier requested the head of the Estonian government. Kaya Kallas stressed that visiting Europe is “a privilege, not a human right.”

Some EU countries have stopped issuing visas to Russians, including the Czech Republic, Belgium, Latvia and Lithuania.
