Every Russian quarter admitted knowingly buying counterfeit products, the survey showed. Approximately the same number cannot distinguish counterfeit products from original products imported through parallel imports.

27% of Russians admitted to knowingly buying counterfeit products: survey

The survey was carried out by the Oprosso service and shared the results with RB. The goal was to understand whether Russians can distinguish original products imported through parallel imports from counterfeit products.

Most of the respondents (60%) distinguish between these groups of goods, 23% do so with difficulty and 17% consider that the categories are equivalent.

More than others in the parallel imports category, respondents were interested in smartphones, computers, and smart watches (67% of respondents). 60% are interested in home appliances, 40% are interested in shoes.

One in four respondents considers the profit margin of imported goods through parallel imports to be critical at 25-30%.

6 out of 10 Russians have not yet bought goods from parallel imports. 23.5% of respondents probably do not know if they have purchased such goods.

Oprosso conducted a study in July this year among 1.2 thousand respondents from the 10 largest cities in Russia by population.
